Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent

It's always a surprise to me when Advent begins when it's still November.  This is my favorite Christmas tradition we do as a family (a close second is the Christmas Eve pajamas!)  I love celebrating Advent every Sunday -- with all the enjoyment and excitement of this season -- our Advent wreath helps remind us what this Christmas season is truly all about... the birth of Jesus.

If you do not have an Advent wreath you can easily put something special together with four votive candles.  On Christmas Eve we place a white candle in the middle to light for the birth of Jesus.  If you'd like the details in a Word doc just email me at kimmysboutique at yahoo dot com (or send me a msg via FB) and I will send you what we do as a family every week during Advent.

Okay... time for me to put up the pumpkins and finish the Christmas decorating!

Hey Kim,

It's Jennifer O'Steen. We are actually starting the tradition of Advent this year. Our kiddos are finally old enough to start to understand the Advent season and what Christmas is all about. I would love to know what your family does. I have found some stuff on focus on the family website that I think we are going to incorporate. And also, I can not find an advent wreath that I like. Where did you find yours? My email is jennosteen@gmail.com. I hope your family is doing well. Your children are precious!

Hi Kim! A few weeks ago, I found a candleabra that I think is going to work great for an advent wreath. It was two bucks at a local thrift shop, wooo hooo! Anyway, I'll post a pic of it soon, Dan bought the candles for it today.

Even though I grew up going to church, the only "advent" I was familiar with as a child was a paper flip or chocolate advent calendar. The Christian tradition we belong to now, places great emphasis on the season of advent, waiting on the Lord, preparing our hearts for his second coming. We also have an advent wreath lighting at church on each Sunday of advent. I love it. Like you mentioned, it is a tradition that becomes more special and meaningful to our family each year.

Oooh also, I can't wait to start December daily, that's another favorite tradition. Thank you for introducing me that one...the albums I've created in the last two years are already a treasure to us! Love you!
